PROPOSALS OF STOCKHOLM

Proposals for Stockholm är ett projekt av Economy som handlar om hur bildproduktion påverkar produktionen av rum och historia. Hur skulle det vara om vi kunde resa i tiden och föreställa oss nya historieskrivningar och alternativa framtider? Hur skulle det vara om Stockholm var en plats där fiktioner och verkligheter, framtid och historia kolliderar in i varandra, där nya synsätt och perspektiv synliggörs? Denna bok, med texter av den kroatiska filosofen Tomislav Medak, ger sig i kast med den fullständigt omöjliga uppgiften att förändra bilden av Stockholm. Olika framtider projiceras från en mängd utgångspunkter. Förlorade historiska platser besöks och alternativa framtider låter sig anas. Ett Stockholm befolkat av omedvetna arkitekturer, impulsiva reaktioner, klipp och klistra-infall och kalejdoskopiska vyer.

Proposals for Stockholm är en reaktion mot en arkitektur som är allt för upptagen med att fullfölja kortsiktiga ekonomiska mål, en praktik som mer och mer har kommit att begränsa sig själv till det som är möjligt och mätbart. En arkitektur som har förlorat sin kapacitet som potential. Denna bok försöker förmedla att arkitektur inte enbart handlar om det som är möjligt, det handlar i lika hög grad om det som inte är möjligt, en arkitektur för äventyr, förlorade framtider och alternativa verkligheter.

Economy (SE/AU) är en svensk-australiensk plattform som arbetar med arkitektur, konst, utbildning och management. Economy grundades 2010 av Tor Lindstrand, arkitekt och lektor i designprocesser och Jessica Watson-Galbraith, utbildad koreograf och med en bakgrund i den globala finansvärlden.

Proposals for Stockholm is a project by Economy, a Swedish-Australian platform working in the field of architecture, design and art, it revolves around how image production relates to the production of place and history. What if we could travel back in time and imagine new and alternative futures? What if Stockholm was to be understood as a place where fiction and reality, future and history collapse into each other, thus opening up new perspectives and points of view? This book, with a text by Croatian philosopher Tomislav Medak, takes on the completely impossible task of changing the image of Stockholm. Projecting futures from a multitude of vantage points. Visiting historic sites long gone and suggesting alternative futures, populating the city with unconscious architectures, kaleidoscoping views, cut and paste whims and impulses.

Proposals for Stockholm is a reaction to an architecture preoccupied with fulfilling short-sighted economical goals, a practice increasingly limiting itself to that which is possible, measurable and quantifiable; an architecture that misses out on its capacity for being potential. This book tries to communicate that architecture is not only limited to the realm of the possible, but also an activity that includes all that is not possible; architecture that is busy saying yes to adventure, lost futures and alternative realities.

Economy is a Swedish-Australian platform working in architecture, art, education and management. Economy was founded in 2010 by Tor Lindstrand, architect and Associate Professor in design processes  and Jessica Watson-Galbraith, choreographer with a background in global finance.
